The bell has rung! Time to settle into the November final examinations. As part of the preparatory process, one has to be fully aware and knowledgeable of the rules and regulations that govern the examination. This week the examiner seeks to enlighten the candidate and those involved in the examination of some basic and often overlooked matters.
Statement of Entry
After registering for the examinations, every candidate is issued with a Statement of Entry. It contains your personal details and must be checked thoroughly. Candidate name and date of birth should be as they appear on your legal National Identification documents. This name is the one that shall be placed on the certificate, therefore it is imperative to make sure that it is spelt accurately.
On your statement of entry you will have the details of the subjects you have registered for, please make sure you verify the subject name and the subject code so as to not find yourself registered for the wrong paper.
For example Mathematics 4008 /2 and Mathematics 4028 /2 are often confused, seek correct guidance when registering as to which paper you are meant to be writing.
The Statement of Entry MUST be produced by the candidate when entering into the examination and verified against the Attendance register and National Identification documents of the candidate.
National Identification
documents
Every Candidate must carry National Identification documents to the examinations, these will be verified before entry into the examinations room. These may be in the form of the National ID card, or a valid passport.
Examination Timetable
The examination timetable is a must have for all candidates. If you are late or you miss the examination it is not redeemable.
All Examination Centres must display the examinations timetable on their notice board for all interested parties to be well informed.
Please Note: Candidates are not allowed to carry a copy of the timetable into the examination room.
The examination dates and times shown on the official timetable take precedence over all examination dates which may be quoted elsewhere, unless there has been official communication from the council other than the statement of entry and attendance registers.
Timetable Clashes
A clash in the timetable occurs when a candidate registers for two or more papers that are timetabled for the same examination session.
An application for timetable deviation must be made to the ZIMSEC Regulations office before the examination. It is not possible to ask for a deviation on the day of the exam.
All centre supervisors are expected to be vigilant to ensure that where a timetable deviation occurs, the candidate who will be starting an examination at a time other than the scheduled time, must be kept isolated from other candidates who may have written the paper or who are yet to write the paper.
In some instances a candidate may be sitting for two papers of the same subject that are time tabled for the same examination session, a short break should be allowed between the two papers.
Last week we dealt with the issue of malpractice in examination, it is prudent for all candidates to steer clear of any such shenanigans. Your personal integrity and self-confidence achieved through honest hard work cannot be replaced.
Each milestone you achieve on your own merit increases the chances of you conquering the next stage and achieving an even greater feat.
Here’s wishing all the candidates all the best of luck and good success!
