Vandalism and theft to infrastructure is not only retrogressive but is becoming a real threat to socio economic development. It is against the same background that ZETDC is calling upon all citizens to exercise collective responsibility on this vice which is affecting service delivery.

ZETDC wishes to warn the public that theft and vandalism of its transformers, conductors, cables and ancillary equipment is an offence under the Electricity Act.

Any person found guilty of stealing or destroying components of the electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure will be liable for prosecution with minimum sentence ranging from 10 years.

Interfering with ZETDC equipment may lead to serious burns and loss of life.

Theft or destruction of conductors, oil, insulator, overhead wires and underground cables or such other important equipment responsible for distribution and transmission of electricity often result in power cuts that may subsequently lead to:

Loss of lives

Sabotage to the national economy systems.

Loss of production in mining, farming, industry & commerce.

Damage to electrical appliances

Loss of revenue.

Increase in crime in dark areas.

Road accidents in the absences of controlled intersections.

Inconvenience to clients due to long outages.

High operational costs in replacing the vandalised and stolen material.

ZETDC is therefore calling on all responsible citizens to assist in stopping this irresponsible and selfish practice. Clients should be wary of any suspicious person(s) moving around ZETDC lines and substations with or without ZETDC uniforms.

They are encouraged to take note of registration number if a vehicle is involved and report to the nearest ZETDC Client Service Centre on the 24 hour fault numbers.

Please help us protect your equipment through effective neighbourhood watch committees. Safeguard the Electricity Infrastructure. It is your property.

Stay safe. Stay away. Stay alive.
