How to deal with fallen ZETDC wires

From time to time ZETDC wires (conductors) fall down to the ground due to vandalism or faults. In the interest of safety the public is advised to keep away from such situations, as it is not possible to tell whether such lines have got power or not without testing.

Electricity does not give any smoke, sound, odour or light to announce its presence. Unfortunately its presence is felt after the damage has already been done. Clients are therefore urged to treat all electrical conductors as live all the time.

In the event of wires falling to the ground, clients should report to the nearest ZETDC office or police station while at the same time taking preventive measures to discourage other members of the public from coming near the hazard.

Repairs of electrical equipment and installations

All repairs and installations of electrical equipment should be done by qualified personnel. Clients are strongly advised against allowing unqualified personnel to carry out repairs. ZETDC can give you advice on all types of electrical repairs and installations.

Carrying pipes and long objects near zetdc lines

This should be avoided to prevent accidents through electrocution. Irrigation pipes and overhead loads should be carried at horizontal level and where possible this should be done under the supervision of ZETDC.

Climbing of zetdc

structures, entrance into zetdc substations and boxes

Interference with ZETDC equipment can result in injury or even death. Members of the public are therefore strongly advised against interfering with ZETDC equipment. Furthermore should members of the public realise that ZETDC equipment has been vandalised, they are encouraged to urgently report to the nearest ZETDC office or police station, so that preventative actions can be taken.

Electrification of fences, gates and windows

Electrification of fences, gates and windows to be done in line with approved standards which are available on the ZETDC Website. Any other electrification is illegal.

Cutting of trees near ZETDC lines

Electricity can be transmitted through wood especially when wet, and as such, wood should be treated as dangerous whenever it gets into contact with ZETDC wires. Clients are advised not to cut trees near ZETDC lines without the supervision from ZETDC. Sometimes trees may grow into electricity lines exposing clients to danger of electrocution. Clients are therefore advised to stay away from such trees and at the same time make a report to ZETDC.
